Pac-10 Championship Aspirations

Right now we're co-Pac-10 champs. We're definitely not satisfied with that. We'll enjoy this bus ride and enjoy tonight, but after that, it's business as usual. ... Being co-champs was not one of our goals. It was being Pac-10 champs.

Challenges and Competitiveness in Pac-10

This is big. For us to get two road wins against two really good teams shows we are a team to be reckoned with in the Pac-10.

Going on the road in the Pac-10 is always a challenge. And Arizona State is playing great basketball. They're really going to make us have to play great defense and execute our offense. But it's another great chance for us to get better and build on what we've accomplished.

There are a lot of games yet to be played. It's going to be a great year. The thing that's good about the Pac-10 is anyone can beat anybody on any given night. And Oregon is playing solid basketball.

If anyone is questioning the level of play in the Pac-10, they should watch this game. They should rewind it.

The Pac-10 is wide open. If we lose two games on this trip, we'll go from first to sixth in a hurry. We can't let that happen.

You just can't say the top seeded people are going to win throughout this tournament. It hasn't happened through the conference season. UCLA is as vulnerable as anyone else, and that will make for an exciting Pac-10 Tournament.

I think ultimately, with six weeks to go before conference tournament week, a lot of these seeming inequities will even out. The Valley is more likely to get three than four. They are more likely to go down than they are to go up. The Big XII can only go up. The Pac-10 is probably going to get three, because frankly they're not that good, so they'll have to get over it.

Hopefully we can repeat what last year's team did and win the Pac-10 tournament. But the goal of chasing last year's team is over. We feel like this team can do some special things in the NCAA tournament.

We have another weekend of matches against really good opponents. Arizona State is a very good Pac Ten team. They have already played a very tough schedule and are no doubt ready. It feels like we got that monkey off of our back. Now we can start playing and building momentum for the Pac-10 tournament.

I think we proved that this team is still to be reckoned with in the Pac-10. Starting on the defensive end, we just stepped it up.

I apologize to the team, to the coaches, the university and the fans for my violation of a team rule. I accept the coach's decision to be suspended from the Pac-10 Tournament. I can't ignore what Arizona State of the Pac-10 did to Northwestern earlier this year.

Obviously they lead the Pac-10 in defense for a reason. At the same time, it's not something we haven't seen this year. To me it was more our lack of execution than what ASU was doing.

It's been a strange ride at times, but I always do my best to take away all the positives. We finished fifth in the Pac-10 last season, but we're looking for more this time around. Some March Madness would be fun.

The Pac-10 is very pleased to reach an agreement to send a conference team to the Diamond Walnut San Francisco Bowl. The game has come a long way in a short period of time and garnered a tremendous amount of community support.

We came here talking about how this was a big game, not an ordinary game. We needed this win. We were on our home floor. It's important to protect the home court. If you can do that, you have a good chance of winning a Pac-10 championship.

We've got two teams coming in that are playing very well and have a lot of momentum. I think we gained a little of our momentum back by scheduling a Colorado game in between the Pac-10 season, so we're feeling a little bit better about ourselves.

I actually feel more comfortable this year than last year. We've played Pac-10-caliber teams this year, and I don't think we did that last year.

We respect everyone week in and week out and we know Arizona State is another fierce competitor in the Pac-10 and they have things to prove. We're just doing our best to be prepared for them.

In my estimation, this is the best of both worlds given the competitive and exciting outcome of previous games. Plus our local fans will be thrilled to have the Pac-10 play in the game.

We are very pleased to come to closure with Oregon State on a game in Honolulu. We have a wonderful relationship with the Pac-10 Conference and its member institutions and we hope this leads to additional scheduling opportunities in the future.

I didn't really know what to expect. Being from the East Coast, the SEC and ACC are all you hear about. You don't get to hear a whole lot about the Pac-10 in Georgia. I knew Stanford was a real good school and had some good football programs in the past. All I wanted to do was visit California. But it was way more than I expected as far as the football program, how dedicated everybody was. The guys were really nice, and there's a lot to do around here. I thought this would be a great place to go to school.

We have proven we can go out and play well on the road. Oregon didn't play great, but we had something to do with that. It's not like the teams in our league are a lot better than Oregon. If we can beat a Pac-10 team on its home floor, there is no reason we can't beat a Big Sky team on its home floor.

Of course we're biased out there with the Pac-10. So if we could have USC and Texas, it would be just special, ... It would be as good a game as we could hope for.

It puts us back to a four-year cycle with eight potential visits by Pac-10 and Big Ten teams.
