I like patterns in words. I'm not really interested in meaning.

I've made solo records and that's all been a learning experience. I've just got better at singing and more comfortable with who I am and my voice.

I'm quite happy for my voice to be pushed up, whereas in the past I wanted it buried with the guitars, or part of the band, not like I was thinking of myself as 'the singer'.

If you have good lyrics, there is a type of person you want to be at your show. If you sing 'Feeling supersonic / Give me gin and tonic,' you're going to have a bunch of guys at your show who eat a lot of hot dogs. Not that I want to sound pretentious, because half of our fans that come to a show just want to throw themselves around in the crowd, but the other half want to maybe stand there and whisper the lyrics into their boyfriends' ears.

Your thoughts are the strangest place that you've ever been, ... Stranger even than Los Angeles/It's like a cinema where they never ask you to leave.
