Much burnout in vocational ministry appears to be rooted in misplaced identity. Burnout can be a result of overwork done in the wrong spirit, with the wrong motivation.

This surrender isn’t a one-time thing but is continually embraced over a lifetime. There will be an initial surrendering to God, breaking the self. God will keep this process current through circumstances, helping us to continue to deny ourselves.
