I really try my best to keep the music uniquely Louisiana and uniquely Creole. I want to keep it authentic and real -- like it's supposed to sound.

I started getting a lot of gigs locally. There weren't many people my age who were playing the traditional music, and I became sort of a novelty.

It described a person who is part French and part Spanish. As the French traveled and started settling in different parts of the world, it became a person who was part French and African, French and Native American.

I thought, somebody's got to be from the inside, telling the story right.

Whatever inspires us, we throw it into the pot and make our own flavor.
