Cohabitation among elderly people is becoming more common in Chinese society.

Consequently, cohabitation becomes an acceptable halfway relationship, which can be dissolved more easily than a marriage.

Many elderly people choose cohabitation to avoid opposition from their adult children. A remarriage between two old people causes many sensitive issues.

On the other hand, old people who have lived most of their lives are set in their habits and therefore have far more difficulty adapting themselves to a new marriage than young people.
