Conference and Regional Aspirations

I want to get where we are like the University of Texas, where you're not wondering every year whether you're going to have a winning season. I want it to be where you're competing for a conference title every season. Coming out of the spring, we're still forming that team.

We would like to possibly win the conference, win a regional and then be competitive thereafter in the state tournament.

Every year you have these goals: to win the region and win a national championship. But our senior year, to host the regional, this was something we really expected to accomplish.

The goal would be to compete with the Hudson County powers like North Bergen and St. Peter's Prep. That's the dream. I'd also like to see us qualify for the state playoffs. I knew it would take some time and hard work to get there. But we have the determination to get there. Nothing is going to stop us.

(Our goal is) one, make sure that we make the state tournament and two, end up in the best position that we can be in.

Our goal now is to go out and win the outright champ­ion­ship on Friday night. A Pewaukee team has never won a championship by themselves. We want to be the first team to do that.

Our goals are still the game. We want to win the SCC Quinnipiac Division, defend our conference title and win the Division I state championship. Those goals will now be harder to attain, but they are still attainable.

We have the same goals every year. We've never achieved them, but we want to go undefeated, we want to win a conference championship and we want to have at least a 3.0 GPA. We've got two of the three a bunch, but the undefeated one is tough to do when you have some of the schools on your schedule that we do.

We'd like to go undefeated in the conference, win the tournament and win a regional. Those are wonderful goals to have.

We want to win this regional and go farther than any team has ever gone in school history.

One of our goals is we've got to win the conference and we had to win one of the next two to have a chance at that. After that, it's the sectional championship and that's still the ultimate goal.

Our goal here is to win conference championships on a regular basis without sacrificing academic integrity, and we're certainly in position to start doing that with the football program.

Our goal is to win the NESCAC, whether in the regular season or through the tournament - we'd love to get that NCAA bid. The wins are obviously important, but trying to form a cohesive team and creating a situation where everyone is working together towards the same thing is just as important as everything else.

State and National Tournament Goals

We knew from the beginning that this is what we wanted. Ever since our first game against Rio Grande, we said we wanted to be here playing for a state championship.

We want to take this as far as we can. We hope to play three more games. Right now, our goal is to win (Saturday) and get to the state tournament.

Before the season, we ask them what goals do they have, and the team goal is always to make the states. It's absolutely a big accomplishment for our team.

It's a huge opportunity for us. If we play the way we played in Chicago with fresh legs, I don't think it would be a real contest.

Obviously we'll be competing against the Marlins, we'll be competing against the Heat and the college teams,

We can have four national championships. That's the plan.

This is our ultimate goal. Getting to states is what it's all about for us. Even if a team has just one section champion, it's a great thing."

We've been to the regional final once, in '96. We've matched that. Now, we want to go even further. We want to be the first team from North to go to the state finals.

I would like to finish my senior season with 82 wins, which means that we make it to the finals and I win all of my singles matches. I know that we can get there, and I bet this time we will give Western Michigan a run for their money when we do.

You would expect a team who made it to the states to make a run.

That's where our aspirations are now, trying to win these four games and make it to the (NCAA) tournament.

Our No. 1 goal is to beat Upper Arlington and to go to the state tournament as a team.

We just want to win the natty - the national championship - and that's starts with a team, not just one person.

National Championship Dreams

Any team we think has a chance to compete for a national championship needs to be able to take the show on the road.

This year we really want to go farther in the (NCAA) tournament, win regions and then hopefully place in the top 10.

Sixteen teams make it and we should definitely be in the field and competitive for the final four and championship.

Each year we go into the season and our main goal is to win the Big Ten championship and the national championship. We feel like that's an attainable goal every year.

We've done everything at this program except win a national championship. This would be a pretty good year to do it.

That's what you want, a chance to win a national championship every year.

Our main goals this year are to return to the NCAA Championship and successfully defend our University Athletic Association Championship title.

We have aspirations of becoming a contender for a national championship, but you have to take really small steps and winning the Atlantic 10 championship is one way of taking those steps. But you have to use it and go further and further in the NCAA tournament.

I think that we can compete next year for the national championship.

A national championship. We know we have that potential.

We made a pact that we were going to win a national championship. Now, we need to get it done.

We do have high aspirations. Our goal is to be in the hunt for the EYL championship and a Valley championship. We want to play with intensity for every game.

Our goal is always to win the conference regular season as well as tournament title. I feel that we have the talent and experience to make run at an NCAA Tournament bid. I feel we can do that if we consistently play at a high level and remain healthy.

Team Development and Improvement

We came into this year thinking we'd get 20 wins. A lot of people didn't really think we could. But that's not important to us right now. We know we're in the (NCAA) tournament now, but we want more wins. We want as many wins as we can get out of this season for this team. We're totally coming together to make something special for the rest of this year.

We lost seven starters last year and have a different group now. But they want a state championship and with four undefeated wrestlers on our squad I think we can achieve that goal also.

Second place, three champions, I think that's a heck of an accomplishment. We're heading in the right direction. We only have one senior, so I think we'll be back and I'd like to see us challenge North Marion for the team championship next year. They've set the standard.

We've been in the title hunt before, but last season we just happened to finish it off. Our attitudes as coaches and as a team haven't changed since 2002. We're still the national champions until Aug. 27, and then we become the defending national champions. And hopefully if we play well throughout the course of the season, we'll get a chance to play in Florence on national TV once again.

I'd rather score eight points, get like six rebounds a game and us win 20 games and go to the NCAA Tournament. I mean, there's still a chance we might be able to do that. The odds are against us. But as far as the wins and losses goes, I would rather have those than statistically having my best year.

As a coach, you remain optimistic. You go into every battle, every contest, thinking if we do what's right, we play hard, we got a shot. This is about the kids of West Virginia. If you consider this proposal in that vein, how can you not vote for it?

It'd be OK if went .500 and we gave it everything we got, ... But I want the national championship.

We have the team to do it - we have the potential to do it. Akron would be a great chance for us to prove we can do it.

Of course we'd like to challenge for the win. But realistically, if we could finish top three in the conference, with those (graduated seniors), it'd be a productive year for us.

We have become the quarterback conference all through the NCAA.

We will pretty much count on our defense to get it done, ... We would like to win the division and continue to compete with the teams in our league. This is the toughest league in the state, so it makes it a little more difficult for us, but we want to set our goals high and work to achieve them. We do have a lot of good athletes, especially in the freshmen and sophomore classes, so the sooner they get some experience the better we will be in the long run.

Historical and Competitive Milestones

We would beat the '69 team ... if we lined up with them and played. It's no contest.

Winning this game would do a lot for us nationally. It puts your program in a permanent national status.

Our long-term goal is to win the title as well as to make the NCAA Tournament. We could also get an at-large bid, which we are currently on the bubble for.

We want to be the first 20-loss team in the (NCAA) tournament.

They'll be the most athletic team we've ever played. It should be a big challenge. We're looking forward to it.

Realistically, we thought of this as a game that we should be able to come in and win. With the experience that we have back and with what this team was able to accomplish a year ago (when IUS qualified for the NAIA National Tournament), we had high hopes coming into the year.

It would be such a great accomplishment for the program and the little kids who want to play for the Oak leafs when they get older. It'd great to have another Des Moines team win a championship.

Once you win that, you concentrate on winning the regional championship.

Our RPI was 34 heading into this game, which is really good. We have some good wins. I'd like to keep winning. It'd be nice to win a couple games and know we were in the (NCAA Tournament).

We talked about trying to make the easiest path to the regional championship that we could. Nothing is going to be easy but we have put ourselves in a good position.

Winning the series would be a huge boost and show we can go to (NCAA) Regional and the College World Series.

That is one of our goals for this season, to capture the conference championship.

We have to win this game. We have to. It would be a huge impact for the future of this program, for the uprising Gator nation. It would be big in recruiting, the best recruits you get the best chance you have of winning. It will be like going back to the old ways pretty much.

I think that we're definitely one of the (65) best teams in the country. It would be a tremendous step for our program.

Our goal is to get three under 20 minutes and get into the top 10 in the state.

I think we can invigorate the place, just like we did at CBS Sports eight years ago,

We've already had teams from Texas, California, Florida, Massachusetts and Georgia call us about the masks.

We're ready to start talking about next year's goals. We'd like to become one of those regular teams that are at state, year in and year out.

Our goal is to try and attract the best possible teams into the state.
